True to the Plant – Art Demonstration by Pat Doyne

Drawing and painting plant life is the theme of this painting demonstration by botanical illustrator Pat Doyne. Doyne’s exhibit currently on display on the 2nd floor of the Downtown Library showcases a collection of watercolors until August 6.

Pat Doyne will be using Koi Watercolors by Sakura of America in this demonstration, and invites participants to sketch, with pencil on paper, botanical examples she provides. Pat will guide illustration through observation-focused exercises. Free Gift! Everyone who registers and attends this art demonstration will be presented with a free Koi Watercolor set of 12 colors and paintbrushes, as a gift from Sakura of America and the Hayward Arts Council.

Pat Doyne has been drawing since she could hold a pencil, and holds a BA in Art from California State University East Bay. Pat taught in Castro Valley for 25 years, and retired in 2012. That summer she took Mary Harden’s class in botanical illustration, and has been working ever since on “being true to the plant.” She is president of A.R.T., Inc., and is a member of Hayward Arts Council, the California Writers’ Club, and Alameda-Diablo Chapter of the National League of Pen Women.

Pat’s botanical paintings have been exhibited at many venues such as the H. C. Russell Library of Horticulture in Golden Gate Park,  the UCSF Faculty/Alumni House in San Francisco,  the East Bay Mud Administrative Headquarters in Oakland,  Liberty Arts Gallery in Yreka,  the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center,  the H.D.  Brown Gallery in San Ramon,  the Castro Valley Center for the Arts,  and the Lindsay Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek.  You can see Pat’s art work at sfbotanicalartists.com/pat-doyne
