For Women's History Month, Hayward Public Library Celebrates Women Leaders!

Jayanti Addleman became the Director of the Hayward Public Library in January 2019, and jumped into overseeing the final crucial stages of the building of the new Downtown Library and the expansion of library services, including a much anticipated bookmobile, which will launch later this year. Jayanti has over 30 years of experience in the library profession, having worked in private industry, community colleges, and even as a volunteer librarian. Prior to leading the Hayward Public Library, she served for 12 years as the director of the Monterey County Free Library. Her accolades include being named California Library Association's Outstanding Librarian in Support of Literacy in 2015; one of Monterey County’s 2015 Outstanding Women; and a recipient of the Child Abuse Prevention Council’s Front Line Award. Most recently, she was one of ten librarians across the country given the "I Love My Librarian" award by the American Library Association, and currently serves as the President of the California Library Association.

All the while, she balanced her career with raising two children, who are now both adults. (She welcomed the birth of her first grandchild earlier this year!)
