While internationally renowned storyteller Diane Ferlatte has wowed audiences of all ages across the globe, her favorite audiences include young children. Some 40 years ago, Diane adopted a three year old who had been raised in a series of homes in front of a TV. In order to wean him from TV and get his attention to the nightly readings of picture books to him and his sister, Diane had to return to her own childhood roots on her grandparent’s porch where she listened to the energetic storytelling of family and friends.
From the convergence of these experiences, Diane has emerged as an internationally renowned storyteller, telling her tales in over twenty countries on six different continents as well as in virtually every state in the US.
With the accompaniment of her musician Erik Pearson, all eight of her recordings have won awards including Parents’ Choice, American Library Association, iParenting Media, Storytelling World, National Parenting Publications, Children's Music Web Award, as well as a Grammy nomination. In addition, she has received the National Storytelling Network’s Oracle Circle of Excellence Award, the National Association of Black Storyteller’s Zora Neale Hurston Award, & the California Arts Council's Highest Ranking.
