The Lawyer in the Library program is a free legal information and referral program hosted by the Hayward Public Library and staffed by a volunteer lawyer. In a one-on-one appointment, the lawyer can answer questions on most legal topics. If legal help is required, people are referred to other agencies.

While our physical locations are closed, we are able to offer a limited number of phone appointments on the first Monday evening, the second Wednesday evening, and the third Saturday afternoon of the month.

Appointments usually run for about 10-15 minutes. Due to limited availability, we can only make one appointment per month per person or family.

January 2021 appointments will be on:

  • Monday, January 4, 6-8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, January 13, 6-8 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 16, noon-2 p.m.

To request an appointment, email michelle.nogales@hayward-ca.gov or call 510-881-7980. Library staff will get back to you within two business days.

This program is co-sponsored by Alameda County Bar Association, Legal Access Alameda.
