Event Details
Join us for a journey into 1970s Hayward, when our community saw a flourishing of youth movements finding their voice. The Country Press Collective created a pioneering LGBTQ+ newspaper, while Barrio Expressions documented local Chicano/a life in a community access television show. The speakers at this event helped to make this media.
Country Press and Barrio Expressions: Young People Build Community and Identity in the Bay Area, 1970-1985 will be a community conversation about local media that thrived in Hayward in the 1970s and 80s.
Country Press and Barrio Expressions is part of the Hayward is Home local history series created by CSUEB History Chair Bridget Ford and her students with support from Cal Humanities. Next in the series: a Nov. 3 talk about the creation of the Hayward Shoreline.
Refreshments will be served.
