Free art class
In this “Family Fun” class, we will study Georgia O’Keeffe’s oil paintings, how she simplified her objects, and how she overlaid colors. You will use oil pastels on paper to convey her art style to create your own artwork.
About Georgia O'Keeffe (b. 1887, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; d. 1986, Santa Fe, New Mexico)
Georgia O’Keeffe is one of the most significant artists of the 20th century. She is considered a foremother of the feminist art movement. She worked in a discipline dominated by male artists, critics, gallery owners, and curators, who were critical of women artists. Despite these obstacles, O’Keeffe launched a successful career, developing a distinctive painting style that employed organic forms and floral imagery.
Instructor:
Ruey Lin Syrop is a visual artist and Hayward Arts Council board member. She works in oil, acrylic, pastels, mixed media, Chinese ink, and photography. She makes art as her way of expressing her ideas and connecting with others.
Geared towards kids ages 5-12, this class encourages parents and caregivers to draw alongside their children. It promises quality family fun for everyone!
