We welcome you to join us for a celebration of Black voices in American culture!

Cole Thomason-Redus, Educational Content Curator for the San Francisco Opera, will explore the careers and recordings of pioneers such as Camilla Williams, Simon Estes and Marian Anderson, and mid-century superstars such as Leontyne Price, along with other modern-day masters of the American opera stage.

In addition to celebrating these iconic voices, we will discuss the institutional and social barriers that have often existed within the art form, and the corrective and equity-based efforts being taken today as San Francisco Opera paves the way for a new century of opera in America.

This program is the full 90-minute version of a brief program that was offered in the Library last June.

Sponsored by Friends of Hayward Library.
