Color is a language for birds. Consider the mottled browns and grays of the Great Horned Owl or the iridescent splendor of Anna's Hummingbird. How do these colors originate and what purposes do they serve? What do the colors and patterns of feathers signal to other birds, and do birds see the same colors we do? Expect a little science and a lot of wonder in this photo-packed presentation.
Presented by scientist and storyteller Bob Lewis, winner of the American Birding Association's Chandler Robbins Award for excellence in teaching. His life list includes more than 5,500 birds, and he has a story for each of them.
This program is part of Hayward Public Library's Bay Area Birding series. Next in the series: October 10, Fire Birds.
Sponsored by Friends of Hayward Library.
