This workshop will be led by quilting artist Dolores Vitero-Presley of the Sew ‘n Sews Quilt Group.

Dolores is a long-time member of the African American Quilt Guild of Oakland. Her quilts have been featured in numerous group exhibits and private and public collections, and as an artist in residence and outreach in many venues. She was honored by the AAQGO for her outstanding contributions to the organization since its inception in 2000. Learn more about the AAQGO on their website - https://www.aaqgo.org/AAQGO/ - and in this New York Times feature article: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/03/arts/design/quilts-with-a-sense-of-place-stitched-in-oakland.html

The workshop highlights the "Celebrate Black History Month" exhibition at the Hayward Downtown Library. The exhibition features a variety of media by Hayward Arts Council and Sew 'n Sews members. The workshop is also affiliated with the encore exhibit, "Stitching Russell City Stories: Quilts by the Late Marion Coleman," on display at the Hayward Downtown Library January 29-March 2, 2022. This exhibit is organized by the Hayward Arts Council in collaboration with the Hayward Area Historical Society.
